Page 1/4: Who am I? Creating a positive identity from a divided background

Who am I? Creating a positive identity from a divided background

Competences to be exercised:
•
The skill of planning and practising open dialogues about being in care and having a family of origin.
•  Using staffs member’s life experiences as a resource for exemplary narratives.
•  Helping children and youth understand their behaviour as natural reactions to loss.
•  How to make practical activities for young children where experiences of loss can be resolved.

Theme of the session:
In this training session you are going to work with helping children develop a positive idea about who they are and a high self-esteem.
The session provides tools for how the child can cope with having different sources of origin.

Aims of the session:
The main goal of this session is to help children form a positive idea about who they are by helping them understand their background.

Please use 15 minutes (or as much time as needed) for summing up what you worked with between the last session and this one:

• Did we succeed in doing what we planned?
• What was easy to do and what was difficult?
• What did we learn from doing what was planned?
• What can we do better next time you work between sessions?

Please remember: it is okay if you experienced problems – this is a new way of working, and it takes some exercise and experimenting before it becomes routine.
