In cooperation with the National Board of Social Services in Greenland, Fairstart is able to make an important difference for vulnerable and placed children in Greenland. We design and organize programs that are 100% adjusted to Greenlandic culture and language.
This year we introduce an education for the field of foster care.
The frequent stories of the challenges of ensuring a safe upbringing for the Greenlandic children call for action. The problems are huge and immediate, but fortunately, there is great will to change and improvement.
On our long research trip this spring, we met and talked to more than 100 different people who are related to the field of placed children and this time especially the children in foster care. Tasiilaq / in East Greenland receives special attention right now due to particularly great and severe challenges. In Tasiilaq, Fairstart interviewed children, caregivers, professionals, foster families, teachers and local government workers.
The first team of foster care instructors starts their education in September 2019, in Ilulissat. Hereafter, Fairstart continues to South Greenland, where we will start the second class of our group care education, also with participants from Tasiilaq.
We are looking very much forward to meeting the Greenlandic Instructors for the family care as well as for the group care education.
